Hello I am James Tobby and i am hearing impaired i need to know if you can handle website design for a new company and i also need to know if you accept credit cards as form of payment ?
I have been getting these with increasing frequency. The name always changes, but the content in the first message is always the same. First, they make sure you know they are hearing-impaired and then want to know if you accept credit cards.
When I got the first one of these, I responded with my typical questions and then the next email from them looks something like this:

I have small scale business which i want to turn into large scale business now and the company is based on importing and exporting of Agriculture products such as Kola Nut, Gacillia Nut and Cocoa so i need a best of the best layout design for it. Can you handle that for me ?. so i need you to check out this site but i need something more perfect than this if its possible. the site would only be informational, so i need you to give me an estimate based on the site i gave you to check out, the estimate should include hosting and i want the same page as the site i gave you to check out and i have a private project consultant, he has the text content and the logos for the site.
Note:
1. I want the same number of pages with the example site i gave you to check excluding videos and blogs.
2. I want only English language
3. I don’t have a domain yet but i want the domain name as rootsnherbs.com
4. you will be updating the site for me.
5. i will be providing the images, logos and content for the site.
6. i want the site up and running before ending of next month.
7. My budget is $4000 to $8000

This almost seems legit, right. There’s information on what they want, a budget, etc. But not so fast. If you continue to do exchanges with this person, and even go so far as to send a proposal, they will request something odd. Wouldn’t you know that their “project consultant” doesn’t take credit cards? And since you do, they’d like you to charge the full amount to the credit card, then send a payment to their project manager.
Now it’s starting to sound fishy.
There are a lot of people who may not have heard about it, and may think that a great website project just fell into their lap. The reason they claim to be hearing-impaired is so they don’t have to talk to you on the phone, because either they are not good enough actors or else they have thick accents they don’t want you to hear.
What happens if you agree? Well, you charge the card. It goes through, no problem. You send the payment and they cash it. Then you never hear from them again. Who you DO hear from is the credit card company about the fraudulent charge.
And if you take credit cards but haven’t experienced this, if someone calls their credit card company and claims your charge is fraudulent, they take the money right out of your bank account, with very little notice, I might add.
And if you actually sent a check to that person, not only do you lose the original deposit, but you lose the money you sent to their “project consultant” as well.
That’s when you are really in trouble.
I keep getting these messages, almost weekly now, and I can only assume that it’s working and that’s why they keep sending them. This is my warning. Never agree to send money to another contractor on your client’s behalf. This will never end well.
And to these scammers, please STOP.

I received this scam from gdavidtimothy@gmail.com claiming he needed a logo and catalog design for Woodrx Online and Furnishings. “David” initially texted me from this number: 1(407)519-0620. There was already a red flag when he said he found me on creativehotlist.com. My profile on there was last updated in 2013. It is now 2020.

I got this and even went as far as to mention having a phone conversation before I did anything with the person to discuss particulars in greater detail because of the fact in my gut I was suspicious.
After seeing this I replied to the person saying that I know I mentioned I did accept CCs but currently due to the Corona Virus issue, my CC Processor isn’t able to provide me with any assistance at this time and I would need to have a CASHIERS CHECK to begin any work with him.

UUH..I just got an inquire ( coming from NOWHERE) for an event for HIS company and the budget is $30,000 and its for 150 people in JULY 25 ,2020!!

I got the email with all the “project details” and it matched this sample almost exactly. Before he even brought up anything about payment, I replied with, “So does your project consultant accept credit cards?”
Hmmm… crickets…. LOL!
This is the SECOND time I’ve been hit up with this scam. Seriously, this needs to stop.
I would like to report a company that is hidden under the name AVISUAL DESIGN LLC as a scam. The company swindle data and money in a sophisticated manner. On the BEHANCE platform, I received a message from them with the project order. I talked to their project manager, everything looked cool and very professional. After some time, their accounts send me a message that they can’t transfer me a payment because my country is blacklisted in their company policy. I was a little sad because I started doing their project. Later I got a message that they could transfer money to me if I contracted the formalities with them so that the company could transfer money to me, but the cost would be $ 75. Later I got the details of a private person from Nigeria whom I should transfer money through Western Union. The person’s ID does not exist in the database, there is no information on the site about members of this agency. The names in the emails does not exist on Google. Please watch out for this scam. The AVISUAL DESIGN agency, which apparently is from Dubai, is SCAM, probably directed by people from Nigeria. Here is their website http://www.avisualdesignllc.com

Great. Same here AVISUAL DESIGN COMPANY LLC. Got contacted by them too. So they are brothers and sisters from Nigeria. As usual. We love the Nigerian trade of scamming, right? They want a add for MTV for South Africa. đ
Sounded fishy from the beginning on. From day one I was named head Illustrator and I should start working. They came from BEHANCE – same as you described. I did not do anything started googling and here I am. Thanks was helpful.

I got a design inquiry by text yesterday from a guy named Mark Wade Lowery who saw my work on creativehotlist.com (not an unusual occurrence for me). He claimed he was needed a logo and online catalog design for his furniture + accessory design start-up. His website is being built, but not registered yet, etc. etc. He then sent info bout his business, where he wanted it to be in 5 years, the ‘look’ he wanted, which logos, websites, etc.were similar to what he was looking forâappealing (west elm, crate&barrell, Williams Sonoma), the exact number of pages and images for the catalog, etc. etc. etc. But right from the start my gut was telling me something was offâhis company name, ADORNLYF (he explained it was a deliberate misspelling of ADORN LIFE), sounded ridiculous and a marketing faux pas. I emailed him to ask a few more pertinent questions, and he answered reasonably, so I put together a proposal/estimate higher than I normally charge and asked for 50% up front (to cover my time just in case.) Mailed it off tonight and to my surprise, got a text reply within 7 minutes saying me my bid was great and within their budget (so fast? weirder still). Then he wrote that he’d send payment immediately via a card and asked what my merchant account was. I’m a free-lance graphic designer and no one has ever paid me with a credit card…Red Flag. I wrote back asking what he meant by a merchant account (I knew) and could he pay through my PayPal account, but he immediately said that I needed to set up a free trial account with…and he listed a couple companies. I thanked him and said I’d look into it. I knew something was questionable, immediately Googled his email address et voilĂĄ…here I am sharing the same story, more or less, with all of you! So grateful for my accute sense of smell! Oh! and when I asked where he was based, he said he was in Maryland right now for medical reasons! Sound familiar?
EXACT SAME SITUATION HAPPENED TO ME!!! SAME SCENARIO Except I got a strange feeling right before I sent him the pertinent questions and created a proposal. You and I worked the same way…so I am so glad I took the time to listen to the voice that told me to Google his name – because HERE I AM…finding out that it is a SCAM! WOW! This happened to me once a couple of years ago from Thumbtack and I actually sent that person a proposal and they wanted to pay me more $ than I required…then I clued in and figured it out. Just got the same message for the second time, this time from ROBERT JACK – nr 831.246.6755 (first time it was Jeff Tweed)
I knew right away it was a scam so I played along until I called him out
At that point I thought he would stop replying to me, but not only did he not stop, he was fully engaging in a conversation.. we talked about the fact that he was going to get caught and he just laughed with a smiley, told me he couldn’t get caught and called me names..
I hope badly they bust these fucker’s assess soon !

Wow – I received a similar email with the 8 steps all caps but from a William Smith, with the company called “Premier Furniture”. Seemed a little sketchy so I googled it and am so happy I did.
I just had a sign guy refer this job to me for ROCK SOLID. I guess my info is on the hit list from this moment on.

I received that exact email. He had my phone number and we have been texting. I have been messing with him for the past 3 hours. Scammers or not, this is still fun!
I just received the same inquiry from a Shayne Horton at shoffice1987@gmail.com requesting the same information. I remember months ago receiving another request from Alex Blessing for the same site. So, for Mr. Shayne Horton, who not only emailed but texted me also, I reply with a link to this site stating that they are on to you and I would NEVER contact me again. Here is the request original sent.

I just received a text message and email from this Shayne Horton person. He’s still out there and contacting designers.
Yep, got the ‘Logan Theo’ email. I did fall for it first, but at the second exchange (the one that talks about the cashier’s check) I felt uneasy and raised a red flag – as it turns out, my gut feelings were correct. THANK YOU ALL for sharing this information. Don’t fall for it, indeed!
Glad I searched this today; many red flags came up with this person over the past few days: Charlie Wayne (charlieewayne@gmail.com) 240-493-9767 (MD # but claims to be in hospital in one state but reside in MI).
Wood Furniture & Home is the company. Wanted a logo and catalog and pushed hard for me to set up a merchant account so he can pay by CC. I sent him estimates but there were too many red flags at that point: ALL CAPS messages, the CC push, the illness and info above from 3 states, typos, and the kicker: I got him on the phone and he had a heavy accent – was obviously not Charlie Wayne).

Got 2 emails yesterday. The 1st one was from âGregory R Folgerâ gregoryrfolger@gmail.com. They emailed me just saying âHello can you create a company logo.â I replied back just to see what they would say after. Then, they replied with broken English and something that stood out to me: âYou just have to understand that my business associate is handle the payment, That why you have to send me your details now. Theyâll make the check available as soon as possible.â Looked up if anyone went through anything similar and then I reported it to Google as phishing. Then almost immediately after they tried to get me again with another email from âLogan Theoâ logantheo1960@gmail.com looking for a logo for his âherbal teas.â These people are relentless!
Got an inquiry from gregoryrfolger@gmail.com for a logo design and got a weird feeling â googling the email address brought me here! The name for the “company” changed from Greg Auto Part Sales to Gregautoparts to Greg’s Auto Parts. I’m including these names in case anyone else searches the internet for it!

For the Brochure, I want a double folded A4 size brochure with 15 pages and I can only supply the text content and photos but, all are with my project consultant but the logo and brochure will be designed by you and the due date for the project is 5th of march 2020

4) I COULD ONLY SUPPLY THE TEXT CONTENT AND PHOTO ALL ARE WITH THE

5) I WANT THE PAGE OF THE BROCHURE TO BE 14 PAGES (INCLUDING FRONT AND
BACK COVER) BECAUSE I HAVE LOT INFORMATION. THE TEXT AND THE PICTURE IS
APPROVED AND CROSSCHECK.
6) THE SIZE OF BROCHURE SHOULD BE 8.5 X 11.5.
7) I WILL WANT YOU TO ADD OUR CORE VALUES, MISSION & VISION( IâLL BE THE ONE TO PROVIDE YOU WITH THAT)
8) MY BUDGET IS $5000-$7000
9) I WANT THIS DONE IN 4-5 WEEKS TIME.
10) I WOULD LOVE TO KNOW IF YOU ARE THE OWNER OR MANAGER AND DO YOU ACCEPT USA CERTIFIED CHECK AS MODE OF PAYMENT.

I got the same thing the guy wants my cell phone. He emailed me. Furniture company- a 24 page brochure and logo. Hearing impaired a 916 area code phone

I just received that email yesterday, and I sent a Proposal, they approved, I sent an invoice from quickbook, But right after I search the company and read this blog I cancel the invoice. I ‘ve texting with this ” Wiliams Smith” What do I do now??? Please help
