I have been getting these with increasing frequency. The name always changes, but the content in the first message is always the same. First, they make sure you know they are hearing-impaired and then want to know if you accept credit cards.
When I got the first one of these, I responded with my typical questions and then the next email from them looks something like this:

Can you handle that for me ?. so i need you to check out this site but i need something more perfect than this if its possible. the site would only be informational, so i need you to give me an estimate based on the site i gave you to check out, the estimate should include hosting and i want the same page as the site i gave you to check out and i have a private project consultant, he has the text content and the logos for the site.
Note:
1. I want the same number of pages with the example site i gave you to check excluding videos and blogs.
2. I want only English language
3. I don’t have a domain yet but i want the domain name as rootsnherbs.com
4. you will be updating the site for me.

This almost seems legit, right. There’s information on what they want, a budget, etc. But not so fast. If you continue to do exchanges with this person, and even go so far as to send a proposal, they will request something odd. Wouldn’t you know that their “project consultant” doesn’t take credit cards? And since you do, they’d like you to charge the full amount to the credit card, then send a payment to their project manager.
Now it’s starting to sound fishy.
There are a lot of people who may not have heard about it, and may think that a great website project just fell into their lap. The reason they claim to be hearing-impaired is so they don’t have to talk to you on the phone, because either they are not good enough actors or else they have thick accents they don’t want you to hear.
What happens if you agree? Well, you charge the card. It goes through, no problem. You send the payment and they cash it. Then you never hear from them again. Who you DO hear from is the credit card company about the fraudulent charge.
And if you take credit cards but haven’t experienced this, if someone calls their credit card company and claims your charge is fraudulent, they take the money right out of your bank account, with very little notice, I might add.
And if you actually sent a check to that person, not only do you lose the original deposit, but you lose the money you sent to their “project consultant” as well.
That’s when you are really in trouble.
I keep getting these messages, almost weekly now, and I can only assume that it’s working and that’s why they keep sending them. This is my warning. Never agree to send money to another contractor on your client’s behalf. This will never end well.
And to these scammers, please STOP.

I have exactly same email sent to me a week ago. I also requested him schedule a meeting and he refused. and sent me this phone number and say “call now or tomorrow 904-321-9076” 😀
I got one from Michael Wright as well!! He used a different email, mikyve01@gmail.com. I sent him a response back requesting a day and time for a Zoom meeting and he hasn’t responded yet. We shall see, lol.
I got exactly the same one. He gave me a physical address and this was the last reply: My new business address is located here at 3261 Phillips Hwy, Jacksonville, FL 32207, And i have a graphic designer who is working on the content logos images and stuff, So you shouldn’t worry about all that, I just want a informational website it can be as simple as it can be.

Spoke with “Anthony” briefly on the phone. He mentioned a referral source from within our network, which was interesting. Don’t know if that actually happened or if it was part of the scam. He also mentioned using designrush.com. He was hard to understand, but the reference added to his credibility, and I probably would have continued with our call had I not found this post. Be careful.

Thanks for providing this. I literally got the exact email that’s in this article. It started with a text message from the guy, but there were a few pieces of my interaction with him that really peaked my suspicion. Some of the wording and a few other things. I’ll make sure I link to this page to help warn other designers.
Here’s an example of one I’ve been getting a lot lately. I think they’re targeting people on LinkedIn since they’re faking that I applied to a job with them. Note the email is not the company’s website but is a website themed user name @gmail.

I have received the same. A little tempted, but luckily I was looking for information about the name ROSE GREGORY FURNITURE INC. And here’s what popped up.
OMG, I also received this email template. They initially contacted me via a crowdsourcing site and asked if I could provide a service, saying their boss needed it, and would like to be contacted via email. I contacted them in good faith, thinking it was legitimate. But they took their sweet time to reply. And guess what – their reply to my email was word for word exactly the same as yours. This was clearly not a real opportunity – it was just a template response. Thank God I Googled it first and found this was a scam. Shout out to Amy for publish her experience here and other fellow designers. Be safe out there guys!

I had a guy called “david hope” who did the whole “hearing impaired” thing, they wanted a logo, and a 25 page bi-fold brochure. I got suspicious, and looked up the business name, along with their name. lo-and-behold, this article is the first thing that pops up. they have not yet asked about credit card.
Got an email that is very similar to what I’m seeing here. Here are the details:

I popped an email back out of curiosity and in case they had snagged my contact from my linkedin profile (which is linked to behance. technically also doesn’t have that email address but i noticed was still on my resume)

$1000 budget isn’t the worst I’ve seen for logo design, particularly for small business or someone just starting out. Except that they are asking for exclusive rights and “aspire to go global”. Exclusive rights. With a $1000 budget. ROFL.
I went to the website from the email, it’s pretty barebones, definitely not operational for sales of any sort. Seemed a little off, wouldn’t be terribly unusual if they haven’t started promoting their business yet. EXCEPT that’s not what was implied by the email. When i scrolled to the bottom the email contact was for cubicluxury1@gmail.com. hmm. interesting that the email and company don’t match. and that a company by that name is also in this thread.

I literally have the exact same contact regardint the same client. I was contacted via instagram from a highly suspicious profile.
The profile was made in 2020, with onle 2 posts and the profile was locked. It had 665 followers and following 61.
The website they give is a fake wix site.
This just happened to me and I am SO GLAD I looked up the name and strung them along long enough to learn that they wanted to pay by Check (which you should NEVER do unless they are local to where you are) and I knew it was a scam. Thank god for this post.

I just got the same email from Lena Faglier.
Sophia faglier asked me to make a wedding invitation for her wedding that was coming up in a month. I sent her a quick mock-up design for an invite and then things got weird. She said it looked great, then never mentioned it again. She said the organization she works for was going to pay for the design and printing of the invites but they made a mistake and were going to send me a cheque for $2150 instead of $200.
Sophia must be the laziest scammer ever because she never sent me a cheque. The deadline for the invite came and went, but she was only interested in if I received her cheque. I never responded to her and she forgot about me. Now a month later I get a familiar worded email from a Joshua Blake asking me to design a logo for his new clothing company. His email is also very similar to an old one that’s posted on this page.

I got the exact same email except they used a different name. They used the exact same text too as if copy/paste!!
I had a gut feeling not to go through with it and declined the offer because now I see that this is clearly a scam.

When she signed the contract back I think she is trusted, but when talking about payment, she keeps saying that financial problems so she only uses mobile check, and will pay more because of the printing things, It make me doubt.
She didn’t reply the question we ask, so we said we will stop this project due to the payment and communication. (At the same time we found your comment and know that we been scammed…)
When I think everything is over after we say we won’t do the project for her, then she sent a check to my mail which the price isn’t right and higher than my quotation!
I am so pissed!! And I got her text: Confirmed the payment has been sent …got it?

I was not aware of people scamming graphic designers at this point. I recently graduated and been looking for work so thought this could potentially be a easy project. I agreed to the project and proceeded on asking for even for details which she responded.
‘I have a reference to this design if it helps, the colors for the wedding are navy, gold and white. I would love a little more floral designs and a taupe background if that make sense. I would like a trendy design for the theme. I have attached a sample image I saved to this email. Thanks!
Also I would like you to send a contract agreement with invoice so I can forward to the organization financial. I have a sponsor for the event which is the organization I work in. However they would only issue a check, I hope that works for you.

This was the last email I received. I only provided my name and a mailing address. When she asked for the bank name I thought it was strange. I simply stated that a check could be mailed to me. Asking to use a check did not alarm me as I know many companies still use them for the paper trail. I did email multiple times after this. Stating that would only get the files after recieve payment. Requesting payment and giving other ways to send payment yet no response that’s when I knew for sure was a scam.
Then I recieved this email a couple days ago

I actually received it twice. That’s when I decided to Google the phone number and I found this thread here. I did not want to fall for another scam and put energy into something I won’t get paid for. This thread is a life saver.
Another scam email received this weekend, this one sadly impersonating a real person who is painfully aware her identity is being stolen to try and scam people. Note that email is FanaticsDesign.cc and not the actual company’s email of FanaticDesign.com.

I just encountered one of these scams using a new name and new text, so I will share here to hopefully save someone else the time I wasted. Note that I was not able to locate via google any one named Ashlee Skinner anywhere that was also working as a “Creative Director” or anything related.

I responded saying I was interested and quoted them $50 plus 25 per hour. They responded eventually that they were “budgeted for $550” and would that be okay, and then later said they would send me a $200 deposit before I start, as soon as I sent them my full name, phone number and “financial institution name” for an E-Check (they also called this a Bank Certified Check), which they insisted on, refusing paypal or any 3rd party platforms–which is when I finally cut off communication. I know, I let this go way further along than I should have.

I may sound like an idiot here, but are you sure this is a scam?/scammer? I haven’t run into this situation before but I felt sketched out by the incorrect grammar and punctuation in the email as well as a mix of different fonts so I looked it up and I came upon your post which is literally about the same person/company.
How could you tell it was a scam, and how should I avoid this in the future? Thanks for saving my ass!

it followed all the patterns of some very common wire fraud scams. One of the biggest red flags here early on is the scammer offering way more than my fee–which will usually lead to them sending a fake check for that amount, then saying they sent too much and asking to be sent back some, so when the fake check bounces you gain nothing and end up losing the money you sent. There’s also no reason they would refuse to pay via common (and less scam capable) platforms, like paypal or venmo. Luckily they showed that red flag before I started any work!
Also, that they’re not contacting you through the platform they claim they found you on. I don’t even know where they got my personal email from, as it shouldn’t be showing on my Behance page.

The scammer might contact you on Behance or at the telegram, and offer you a job, he preted to be from Icreon company staff, and offers you a well paid designer job, but to get the interview you should pays the interview fee. This guy pretend to be from USA or from any country of EU, but actually he based at Keniya, Nayrobi, and do not bound with Icreon staff. Do not send him anything, beware of this scam scheme!

We received the exact same email from a supposed “Mason”. The only difference is the city was listed as San Antonio, Texas.
ICREON SCAM! Guy writing on behase or contacts at telegram, pretending to be a staff of ICREON company, and offers a design job, but to get the job you should pay processing fee. Pretend to be from USA, but guy actually based at Kenia, Nayrobi, and not bound somehow with ICREON. Beware of this scam!

I received similar content in an email this week. This individual purported to be a natural foods entrepreneur. Claimed his company (incorporated) was ‘new’ , has 5 restaurants in Indiana and online stores but no evidence was found. . ‘Prospect’ has yet to provide a link.
I don’t like to draw conclusions from spelling/grammatical errors or lack of punctuation, but at a certain point this is an indicator. Other signs: kept asking for mobile number event though there’s a phone number in my signature. When asked to call and leave a return number, response has yet to arrive.
I think this website popped up when I was searching using parameters like ” Indiana natural food” — I didn’t expect it but am truly glad it did! Thank you Amy and everyone. Let’s continue to try and build on this wonderful tool and counter the stain others try to put on it!

The first email was vague but the email address it was sent to is so new (i’ve literally only used it on my FaceBook Business Page) that i thought perhaps it was one of my followers. The 2nd email threw all sorts of red flags (and didn’t answer my questions, so i was suspicious) and then this third reply … which is identical, including missing the space between Ottawa and Canada. thank you for posting this!!

I require this information, in part for planning & estimating purposes, but also so that I can make sure that I do not have any competing clients in the same field or in the same area. And as an FYI – I do require a 50% cleared deposit on any work before I start (this will be based on the estimate).
Also – I prefer the opportunity to meet /connect with potential clients in some way so that I can have a good sense of who you are and what sort of vibe you are looking for. I can understand the challenge you are dealing with. Which hospital are you at? Perhaps we can meet in person for coffee? There are many ways we can communicate, we can set up a chat / texting, or if you can lip read, I have a couple of friends who are hearing impaired who tell me that I do good job of slowing down when I speak and that I enunciate very well. And well…. It’s been a very long time since I practiced ASL, but I still remember a few things.
